Thailand has updated its visa rules for Indian tourists. Indians can still travel to Thailand without a visa but the maximum stay has been reduced from 60 days to 30 days. The Thai government had earlier planned to end visa-free entry for Indians but then decided not to, after seeing a drop in the number of Indian tourists visiting the country. So, the government confirmed that Indian travellers will continue to get visa-free entry.
India is one of Thailand's largest tourist markets after China and Malaysia. However, the visa-free stay has now been reduced from 60 days to 30 days. Thailand's Tourism Minister Surasak Phancharoenworakul, said the change was made to better match the travel plans of Indian tourists while helping the country's tourism industry. He added, "If problems arise from this measure in the future, the government can review it then."
In May 2026, Thailand's Cabinet approved a proposal to reduce the number of visa-free countries from 93 to 54 and limit visa-free stays to 30 days. However, the rule was not been implemented at that time. Now, travelers from India, along with Croatia, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Malta, and the Maldives, can continue to enter Thailand without a visa and stay for up to 30 days. The visa policy changes came as Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul's government steps to stop people from misusing the visa-free system. Officials have raised concerns about some foreign visitors working illegally or breaking the rules of their stay. Local businesses, especially in popular tourist areas, had also asked the government to take action against such misuse.
