Khajuraho is a city located in the Chhatarpur district of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in India, known for its medieval Hindu and Jain temples, famous for their erotic sculptures. The Khajuraho Group of Monuments has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1986 and is considered one of the “seven wonders” of India. The town’s name, anciently “Kharjuravahaka”, is derived from the Sanskrit word kharjur meaning “date palm”.

The Khajuraho Group of Monuments consists of 20 temples, out of the original 85 temples that were built during the reign of Dhanga (c.950-1002) when the Chandelas became independent. The temples belong to both the Hindu and Jain religions. The intricate sculptures of nayikas (Hindu Mythological female protagonists) and deities are one of the reasons that make it a popular site to visit among tourists.

The average temperature in Khajuraho ranges from 24.1 degree Celsius to 42.8 degree Celsius throughout the year.
