Udaipur - The City of Lakes

Udaipur also known as the “City of Lakes”, is a beautiful city located in the Indian state of Rajasthan. It is famous for its picturesque lakes, palaces, forts, temples, and gardens. The city is surrounded by the Aravalli hills and is home to several lakes such as Lake Pichola, Fateh Sagar Lake, and Jaisamand Lake.

The Lake Palace is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Udaipur. It is a luxury hotel that was originally built as a summer palace. The palace is located on an island in Lake Pichola and is known for its stunning architecture and scenic views.

Another popular attraction is the City Palace. It is a majestic architectural marvel that towers over the lake on a hill surrounded by crenelated walls. The palace is a conglomeration of courtyards, pavilions, terraces, corridors, rooms, and hanging gardens. The main entrance is through the triple arched gate, the “Tripolia” with eight marble porticos. The surajgokhada, the balcony of the sun, is where the SuryanshiMaharanas of Mewar presented themselves to the people in the time of trouble to restore their confidence.

The ‘MorChowk’ known for its exquisite peacock mosaics in glass and the ‘ChiniChitrashala’ noted for its blue and white ceramics are other attractions in the palace. A high tech sound and light show is conducted every evening at the magnificent ManakChowk which brings alive the rich history of Mewar.

And for those who are interested in arts and crafts, then the Shilpgram Festival is a must-visit. It is a ten-day festival that starts from 21 Dec to 30 Dec and pulls in a large number of people interested in arts and crafts. Udaipur is a city that is steeped in history and culture. It is a perfect destination for those who want to experience the royal grandeur of Rajasthan.
