Tirta Gangga – the Majesty of Balinese Culture

A revered Balinese palace with ancient beliefs, Tirta Gangga holds the Ganges and its waters holy for irrigation, agriculture, relaxation, and economic activities.

Tirta Gangga is a former royal palace founded in 1946 by, and is famous for its Karangasem royal water palace, bathing ponds, and the Patirthan temple. The water palace is a wonderful site, complete with towering gates, statues from Balinese Hindu and Buddhist mythology, elegant pavilions, and stone carvings of Hindu gods. The palace features eleven sections of Balinese garden architecture, including ponds and temples. Visitors may also swim in the Tirta Gangga pools, which were constructed for the royal family and visitors. 

The crystal-clear water in Tirta Gangga has no chlorine or additives, and soap is strictly prohibited.

Tirta Gangga, located in Ababi Village, Karangasem Regency, East Bali, is a popular stop for travellers travelling to Lempuyang and Amed. It’s a 2-hour journey from Denpasar or 1.5 hours from Ubud. There are car services provided by Bali tour operators like Marine To Alpine Pvt Ltd from all over Bali as well as from Ngurah Rai International Airport offers. The Tirta Gangga Temple is best visited between April and October because of the less wet and humid weather. To escape the heat of Bali, it is advisable to arrive early in the morning or late in the day.
