Rongo or Rongu is a small picturesque village in Duars region of West Bengal in India at an elevation of 4500 Feet near the international border of Bhutan. It is often referred as Rongu. Rongo or Rongu is known for Cinchona plantation in Kalimpong hills. Although many other medicinal plants are farmed at Rongo.
From Khunia More in Duars (After crossing Chalsa - if you are coming from Siliguri) one has to take left - reach Gairibas and from Gairibas it is a bumpy ride of about 6 - 7 Kms uphill to reach this scenic village which offers great views of the Himalayas along with dense Forests.
Rongo or Rongu has a small population of about 500 who depend upon cinchona plantation, rubber plantation or plantation of other medicinal plants or herbs to make their livelihood. Rongo offers a good view of the Duars (Dooars) plains with tea gardens and forests. There are few homestays in Rongo where accommodations can be arranged for the guests.
