Hoa Lu Ancient Capital (Vietnam)

Hoa Lu Ancient Capital is one of the most fascinating places in Vietnam to find history and culture. Hoa Lu Ancient Capital features both precious ancient sites and great tourist attractions that allow visitors to admire the beautiful historical landscape and unique architectural values of the bygone era. Hoa Lu, where the royalty ruled until 980, was founded by King Dinh Bo Linh of Dai Co Viet in 968. Later, Hoa Lu also sustained for almost 31 years of existence in the Le dynasty (1980-1009). In 1010, King Ly Thai To move his capital to Thang Long (now Ha Noi), and from then, Hoa Lu turned into an old capital of historic temples and relic sites in Vietnam. However, Vietnamese locals say that the best time to travel to Hoa Lu is in the spring season when there will be many great festivals occurring right after the Lunar Tet. Hoa Lu was an ancient city encompassed by the Trang An limestone peaks. In the northwest, it borders the Hoang Long River, whose tributaries flow through the capital, tempering the weather in the city and acting as convenient routes of water. The Royal Court was constructed in a 150-hectare area to the east of the capital while the western section was an area to train and safeguard children. The landscape is very beautiful with ponds and limestone range creating a jagged horizon. The most important and biggest one is the Truong Yen Festival held on the 10th day of the third lunar month. This is in remembrance of the Kings of the Dinh and Le dynasties named Dinh Tien Hoang and Le Dai Hanh. This festival has two parts: worshipping at Truong Yen water station on Hoang Long River and worshipping at the two temples of the Kings.
