Kupup

Nothing can be more beautiful and serene than the amazing view of the Kupup Lake, located at a staggering height of 13,066 feet, on the way to Jelepla Pass in Sikkim in India, bordering area with China and India. This wonderful lake is a unique gift of nature which you just can’t stop admiring for eternity. It resembles the shape of an elephant (also known as Elephant Lake) and is surrounded by beautiful valleys and mountains on all sides. Near the lake coast there is a small village with few houses, also a recognized transit point during the silk trade between India and Tibet. Kupup has earned recognition worldwide, due to the presence of the Yak Golf Course, highest of its kind across the globe. Located at an altitude of 13,025 feet from the sea level it has been included in Guinness Book of World Records. Some of the interesting spots around Kupup Lake comprises of the Tukla valley with mesmerising panoramic views of the Mt. Kanchenjungha, the Old Baba Mandir and the distant view of Menmecho Lake.
Gangtok is the nearest town to Kupup, from where tourists can start their journey. The travel time is approximately 4 hours by a hired car or cab. It would be great to schedule the itinerary of Gangtok and Kupup together if you are planning a vacation to the hills of Sikkim.  The nearest airport Bagdogra is around 7-8 hours drive and the same travel time from the nearest railway station NJP, Siliguri. The month from January to May, the lake is completely frozen. Meanwhile from October to December it is partially covered with ice, enabling tourists to enjoy the beauty, while April – June would be ideal to experience the astounding view of the lake and the blossoming flowers of the region.

Since the place is remote and isolated without any hotel facilities, Homestays would be the perfect put up place for the tourists with homely cottages and food ate service. A one night stay at the place would be the icing in the cake for an exciting holiday trip for travellers either with family or friends or even couples. Tourists also can stay at Gnathang (Nathang) or Zuluk and come for day trip to enjoy Kupup. Kupup is a restricted area in Sikkim.
