If you want to be in the lap of nature and embrace the beauty of the Himalayas, Ravangla is the best possible tourist destination which is located in South Sikkim district, approximately at an altitude of 7,000ft. It would be a great experience if you could spend couple of days in Ravangla and also cover nearby attractions like Pelling, Kaluk and Namchi. Ravangla is possibly the finest tourist destination of Sikkim and a great place to laze around, away from the rush of the citylife. Ravangla or Rabongla is a gem in Sikkim offering temples, monasteries and adventure sports activities. The prime tourist spots comprises of Rayong Sunrise View Point, Temi Tea Garden, Ralang Monasteries, Mangbrue Gompa & view point, Ralang hot spring, Borong & Ralang Cha, and Buddha Park.
A wide variety of flowers including orchids and rhododendrons can be enjoyed during the months of April–May. The colours and fragrance of the flowers creates a romantic ambience in Ravangla, a perfect destination for newly married couples planning for their honeymoon. Major Himalayan peaks such as Mt. Kanchenjunga, Mt. Pandim, Mt. Siniolchu, Mt. Kabru are clearly visible from Ravangla. Mainam Wildlife Sanctuary houses a rare collection of Himalayan species like the red panda, Himalayan black bear, leopard cat, black pheasant cat etc. Ravangla is also a bird’s watchers paradise, home to numerous species like verditer flycatchers, blue-fronted redstarts, grey bushchats, dark-throated thrush, blue whistling-thrush, green-backed tit and white-browed fantails.
Since Ravangla is in close proximity to the nearby tourist destinations of Gangtok (75 km), Kalimpong (85 km), Peling (55 km), Namchi (32 km) and Yuksom (62 km), holiday makers generally club all of them together while scheduling a vacation itinerary. Shared taxis, cabs and jeeps are available from the nearest railway station (New Jalpaiguri) taking approximately 4 and half hours to reach Ravangla while Bagdogra Airport (nearest Airport) is 130 kms away. Summers starting from April to June are the appropriate time for visitors to soak in the beauty of this place. However, the months of September, October and November also attract considerable amount of tourists, as winters are about to set in and the temperatures gradually drops. Different climatic conditions along with the tourist inflow offer the opportunity to explore the budget considerations accordingly.
Arrangement of accommodation shouldn’t be a big hassle, as several hotels and home stays are available for tourist to base their stay.
